You can re-import a CSV or archive any time – and decide each time whether to replace your existing list or merge into it. When merging, the app asks whether duplicates should be removed automatically. Perfect for clean migrations or merging two lists.

Answers to the most common questions about Meinkaufen.

How does the shopping list work?
There is only one single list. Items are saved permanently and activated when needed by increasing the quantity. Four different views – All Items, Checklist, Shopping, and Purchased – keep you organized at all times. You never have to re-create items.
Can I assign an item to multiple stores?
Yes – that's the core feature of Meinkaufen. Every item can be assigned to as many stores as you like. In the Shopping tab, the item appears under each assigned store, and checking it off at one store marks it as done everywhere.
How does iCloud sync work?
Sync runs automatically via Apple CloudKit. All devices signed in with the same Apple ID are kept in sync. You can also share your list with family or roommates via iCloud sharing – changes appear in real time.
Does the app work without internet?
Yes, Meinkaufen works fully offline at all times. All data is stored locally on your device. As soon as you have an internet connection again, changes are synced automatically via iCloud.
How can I back up my data?
You can export your data at any time as CSV, PDF, or as a complete archive. The archive includes all items, stores, categories, and photos, and can be used for restoration.
Am I locked into Meinkaufen – or can I get my data out anytime?
Meinkaufen is deliberately not a data silo. You can take your list with you anytime – and bring it back in just as easily:
  • CSV – a table-style format for spreadsheets or moving data between apps. Can be re-imported.
  • PDF – a print-ready shopping list, great for taking along or sharing.
  • Archive (.meinkaufen) – a complete backup including all photos. Re-importable as well.
Individual photos can additionally be shared anytime straight from the full-screen image view (AirDrop, email, Messages, Files app).

The archive is internally a JSON file. In plain language: if you open the .meinkaufen file in any ordinary text editor, you see your data right there in front of you – title, quantity, category, and stores for each item, listed line by line in plain text (the photos are packed into the same file). So you stay in control of your data, even if this app one day stops running.
How does sharing the list work?
In Meinkaufen there is always only one list – even when you share it or join a shared list. When you share your list with others, everyone works on the same shared list. If you join someone else's shared list, your own list temporarily disappears and is replaced by the shared one. As soon as you leave the shared list again, your original list is back unchanged.
What is the checklist?
The checklist shows all items you've marked as checklist items – typically things you buy regularly. Before shopping, you go through the checklist and set quantities. That way, you never forget anything.
Is my data shared with third parties?
No. Meinkaufen does not collect any personal data whatsoever. All your data is stored exclusively in your own iCloud account. There are no analytics tools, no tracking, and no data shared with third parties.
